Where the inspiration started
A few weeks ago, on my flight back to Canada, I ended up watching Wuthering Heights. The cinematography, the atmosphere, and the way the story captured longing and love had me so inspired. For the following weeks, I haven't stop thinking about it.
More specifically, I couldn't stop thinking about photographing a couple madly in love in the rain.
As luck would have it, Edmonton decided to give us an entire week of rain shortly after.
I put the idea out there hoping I could find a couple willing to fully embrace the weather with me, and thankfully Sadie and Tanner were immediately excited about it. What made it more special was that Sadie made her own dress for the shoot. With only a few days to plan, she managed to create something that fit the vision perfectly.
One of the things I love about Edmonton is that, despite being a city, there are some special locations that make you feel like you've escaped the chaos completely. Hawrelak Park is one of those places. And after having the park closed for so long, I was so excited to be able to create there again.
Truthfully, I wasn't looking to create perfect photos from this session.
I wanted photos that felt something. The rain, the wind, the movement in the dress, and the way Sadie and Tanner leaned into the experience together all helped create exactly that.
Some of my favourite photographs come from sessions where things don't go exactly according to plan. Rain is usually something people worry about when they're planning photos, but sometimes it's the thing that makes the images feel the most alive.
